I learned the value of creative and technical balance early in life. My mother was a creative spirit – a travel agent and dreamer who encouraged imagination and enrolled me in an arts-focused school. My father was a civil engineer who led billion-dollar infrastructure projects like Seattle’s SR 520 floating bridge. One taught me to dream. The other taught me how to make dreams real.

That upbringing gave me a deep appreciation for both creative and technical thinking – and shaped the way I work.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that most people lean heavily to one side: they’re either creative or technical. A rare few are truly balanced. But regardless of where someone falls, the most effective collaborators understand that both modes of thinking matter.
